For more than 140 years, the American Museum of Natural History has been one of the world’s preeminent institutions for scientific research, exhibitions, and education. The Museum houses more than 33 million artifacts and specimens, including the largest collection of dinosaur fossils in the world and specialized collections for frozen tissue and genomic and astrophysical date, as well as one of the largest natural history libraries in the world.
Within the 25 buildings and 45 permanent exhibitions halls at the Museum, visitors of all ages can journey to the outer reaches of the universe or explore the natural world and human cultures. Just a few of the many highlights found within these halls are the Hall of the Universe, Hall of Planet Earth, Big Band Theater, and Black Hole theater, all located in the internationally acclaimed Rose Center for Earth and Space; the newly renovated Milstein Family Hall of Ocean Life, which features a 94-foot-long model of a blue whale suspended from the ceiling; and many other exciting exhibits, such as the Museum’s world famous dinosaur halls.
